I will try not to go on and on and on about Kate and Jacob, but it’s going to be tough. I’ve known Kate since the spring of 2009, and she’s super special to me; we met through mutual friends. Things change, relationships change, and while our mutual group of friends changed, we stayed friends! We’d meet for lunch and talk about boys and life and work, and then one day, she asked me to take photographs of her and her family on graduation day. I was honored, but then I had to sit down and think about whether I wanted to switch from just taking pictures of my friends and flowers for fun, and going into business. I made mistakes I cringe at, but I’m glad by the end of the session I had figured out that the shade was the best thing ever, and I got some really cute shots of her and her dad making faces at each other. But really, I don’t know if or when I would have started down this path of pro photographer if Kate hadn’t valued my talent and paid me to use it. I will always be so thankful for that.
We attended a workshop together in 2011 that was life-changing for both of us, and deepened our relationship. In fact, she’s the one that reminded me that this thing I tell myself about me being one of those people that has a fear of commitment is patently untrue, and I remember crying when she said it. After the workshop, it seemed as if an entire wall had fallen, and a new level of Kate was shining through. And it just gets better…because she met Jacob. I can’t really explain HOW, but I knew he was the one for her just by looking at one picture of them on Facebook. They were looking at each other, and it’s just obvious. SOULMATE! Then we had dinner and I got to see them together…even more obvious and I was pretty thrilled inside. Being around the two of them was an absolute joy. But I didn’t want to be like “KATE OMG IS HE THE ONE????” Which is fine, because it happened any way maybe a couple of months later. I remember being so giddy inside when Facebook told me the good news! 🙂 I was secretly hoping they’d hire me to take engagement pictures, so when they booked one of my mini session slots I was over the moon!
Can I just say that they are like, photo session rockstars? They just slipped right into it like they had been photographed a dozen times. Started talking about their first date and the connection was instant. So beautiful. They came to pick up their mini book yesterday and even then, love flooded my living room and I was so glad to welcome them in for the few but lovely minutes they were here. They are so, so, so happy together and absolutely, totally respect each other. I can tell he thinks she is just the most wonderful, beautiful thing ever, and she adores him. I am happy to report that they’ved hired me to shoot a little of their wedding, and then somehow I’m going to be putting my camera away so I can enjoy the reception. 🙂 God help me.
Here they are, Kate and Jacob…I love you both. (Kate, I love you more because I’ve known you 4x longer and Jacob, if I said I love you it would sound wrong, so let’s just say I love the both of you together and I REALLY like you! You make my Kate so happy!)
