When Jonny Got Mary’ed

October 7, 2018

What a pretty, summery, love-ly, adorable, mezcal-infused elopement. They wrote the ceremony, Mouph officiated, and I signed the papers! The flowers came from all over Austin. Revel in their awesomeness! These two have been living the dream for a decade now, and they wanted to commit marriage-style just the two of them; I hear after the ceremony, they spent the day doing Austiny things together that they’ve always wanted to do. I present to you: when Jonny got Mary’ed. <3

“Oh wait! We forgot the rings!”

“Do you take this chin to be your perpetual chew toy?”
I think it’s safe to say she is “part of his world.” Creative, crafty genius right here. Lucky guy right there. (Jonny is the bassist for The Banisters.) These rings are made with meteorites! That’s meteorighteous.

Sara and Greg’s SoCal Desert DIY Family Ranch Wedding

PINON HILLS, CA
April 26, 2018

Highlights/Keywords: eternal unicorn love • hand-dyed wedding dress • animators in love • family ranch • Joshua trees • National Forest • pies AND cake • photo booth • 2-dad processional • DIY • custom wedding logo

Sara and Greg found me at the Lovesick Expo, a wedding show for offbeat couples, so it shouldn’t be that surprising that they first met me in my underwear. I knew something special was happening when we started talking and their wedding turned out to be one of the most memorable of my career. It was a colorful, intimate wedding on a family ranch in the Pinon Hills at the edge of the Angeles National Forest. There’s a special comfort that comes from getting to know a couple that’s been together a long time – these two, it was about 6 years when we met up in LA. Their mutual respect of each other stood out immediately, and their smart way of cracking jokes to each other. They were so down to play with me and their wedding day did not disappoint. Sara’s dress was a Chrissy Wai-Ching, which are always colorful and custom-made. Greg wore a purple shirt with a pretty nifty vest. Succulents adorned the property, and the guests sat on hay bales. This was almost an entirely DIY affair and because Sara and Greg are illustrators and animators, they designed their own artful wedding “logo” that they put on stickers and wedding favors. I have mine on my laptop! When I found out that Greg worked on the TV show Avatar: The Last Airbender, arguably my favorite animated TV show of all time, I fan girled and then we worked in a nod to the show during their couple photos. The vibe was easy, breezy, and not cheesy. Lots of humor but heartfelt words, hanging out, eating barbecue, and goofing off in front of the photo booth. Please enjoy these lovelies; I know I did!
